A 30-year-old man by name Obinna Otigba who allegedly stole two ATM cards belonging to his neighbor and withdrew 2 million from the accounts appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The accused who was arraigned before Magistrate O.J Awope was charged on two counts of stealing as well as the illegal conversion of property for personal use

The accused pleaded not guilty and was admitted to N500,000 bail and two sureties in like sum. Awope also stated that the sureties presented must be gainfully employed, and will be required to show evidence of two years’ tax payments made to the government of Lagos State.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offenses from November 17 to 28, 2017 at his residence. He disclosed that the accused stole the ATM cards from Mrs. Theresa Ajibade and relocated to an unknown destination

“The accused, who lived in the same house with the complainant, stole her ATM cards and ran away,” the prosecutor submitted.

He further revealed that the accused made the withdrawal of N2m from the two bank accounts belonging to Mrs. Ajibade.

“The accused withdrew N2m from the complainant’s pension account and investment account, thereby emptying the accounts,” he said.

Meanwhile, one of the cards has been recovered from the accused while he claimed that the other had been misplaced. The offenses of the accused contravened sections 280 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised). According to NAN, offenses that contravene Section 287 attracts a three-year imprisonment term. However, the case was adjourned until March 26
