The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Leader of APC in Delta state, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has restated the imperative of genuine reconciliation and peace in Delta state chapter of APC as a means of strengthening and positioning the party for victory come 2019 general elections. The minister stated this while reacting to publications concerning a peace and reconciliation meeting that was conveyed by him in his residence at Abuja. Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, while speaking to those present at the meeting, called on the major actors involved in the avoidable crisis that has bedeviled the party to sheath their sword and embrace dialogue in the interest of the party. He frowned at the publication in some dailies where it was wrongly reported that some members deliberately refused to honour the meeting, stating that such report was misleading and unnecessary and warned against rushing to the press to give inaccurate situation reports. The minister expressed confidence that the crisis in the party will soon be a thing of the past judging from the commitment shown so far by the various tendencies. He urged the leaders to prevail on their followers to be mindful of what they write and publish especially on the social media, saying that such publications are capable of undermining the peace effort. He assured all APC faithfuls that no effort will be spared to ensure that unity returns to the party as that is a necessary first step to our success at the polls come next year 2019.
