Gumel Local Government Council of Jigawa has decided to carry out fumigation to rid the area of mosquitoes as part of malaria control.

Malam Sulaiman Usman,The Information Officer of the council, disclosed to newsmen in Dutse on Saturday that the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Aminu Sani, gave the directive for the fumigation.

He said that the fumigation process will include residential areas, markets, schools and strategic locations, to rid communities of mosquito breeding spots.

He added that this new development was to destroy the mosquito lava and to reduce the spread of malaria in the council.

According to him, the council boss urges residents to give their full support to the sprayers for smooth and successful conduct of the exercise.

Usman said the chairman also advised residents keep away food, water and other edibles throughout the exercise.

He said that quality chemicals and kits has been bought by Head of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (HOD WASH), Alhaji Muhammad Hassan for the exercise.

The local government, he said, was poised to control malaria and enhance good healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
