The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Maj-Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, has disclosed that over 10,000 candidates have tendered application for admission to the 600 available spaces in the institution.
Oyebade made this known on Thursday when he was visited by members of the Kaduna State Council of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). He added that due to the limited admission slots in the institution, measures had been put in place to ensure that only the best candidates received admission offers.
He pointed out that the institution was also not in the business of refusing admission to any qualified candidate who had passed the entrance examination.
He went on to speak on the commitment of the academy in partnering with the media, as well as members of the association to promote peace-building.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the council, Mrs. Juliet Oyoyo stated that many youths sought admission to the institution but did not have the opportunity. She urged the commandant to wade into the matter and help out in ensuring that opportunities were given to youths who applied to the institution to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
She then noted that the purpose of the visit was to seek the support of the institution for the forthcoming Peace Workshop being organized by the council and scheduled to hold on May 30 in Kaduna.
