Senator Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has faulted President Buhari’s Government of harbouring criminals.

Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye has called the current administration a government of criminals. The controversial Senator called it “criminocracy” a government of the criminals, by the criminals and for the criminals.

He also accused the Jonathan-led administration to have been a government of greedy people.

Dino Melaye made the remake at the 2017 Nigeria Democracy Day Lecture convened by the Save Democracy Group Africa (SDG-Africa) in Abuja.

The Senator also spoke up that the Buhari-led government had so far gotten a bad record in its two years due to the appointment of incompetent people to head government parastatals.

He said: “Democracy is defined as a government of the people, by the people and for the people but what we had in the time of Jonathan was greedocracy, which is the government of the greedy, by the greedy and for the greedy. Today, we have criminocracy-a government of the criminals, by the criminals and for the criminals. Wrong appointment led to the emergence of the former (suspended) Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF who became a grasscutter.

“When you appoint a man who has no experience in civil administration as SGF, he is bound to misbehave. To sustain the nation’s democracy, Melaye urged Nigerians to note that a legitimate clash of interest exists between the legislature and the executive arm and as such, the National Assembly should be allowed the liberty to carry on with its statutory duty without hindrance.

“There is no where an auditor and the man who runs an organization are friends. There’s something wrong when the two are seen taking tea together.

“We must discuss and agree to be Nigerians. We have not discussed and we have not agreed.

“Generators should only been used at emergency centres like hospitals and mortuaries so that when there is no light in Karmo (a suburb of Abuja), there will be no light also at the villa.”

Melaye also urged that the immunity clause in the constitution should be expunged. He said that the government should focus on poverty alleviation so that there would be no more agitation for secession.

The Senator from Kogi West senatorial district also refuted claims of a leaked audio tape published by Sahara Reporters were he tried bribing a Tribunal Judge in US Dollars. He stated that the tape was doctored to malign him.
