Members of the Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, yesterday asserted that neither arrests of its members or the intimidation by the army would stop them from celebrating this year’s Biafra anniversary. They also stated that they would hoist the Biafran flag across the major cities in Biafra land on May 22.

According to BIM, it’s not a hidden fact that the Federal Government of Nigeria had already started initiating the use of military force to arrest its members and subsequently hand them over to the men of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Anambra.

BIM claimed that its members who had been arrested were being detained in underground cells without access to their wives or food. This was made known yesterday through a statement released on behalf of the leader and founder of the group, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, by the BIM’s Director of Information, Chris Mocha.

He revealed that a source who is an army officer in the Onitsha military cantonment had informed him in a telephone chat that the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has given an order that no Biafran flag should be hoisted in any part of Igbo land on May 22 or another day.
