Senator Andy Uba has entered the race for the All Progressives Congress’ ticket for the Anambra State gubernatorial elections. Uba alongside 12 senators visited the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja on Wednesday and picked his expression of interest and nomination forms from the organizing secretary of the party, Osita Izunaso

Speaking with newsmen in an interview after the collection of his forms and also after visiting the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Uba was confident that his record of performance in service to the public would place him at an advantage over the other contenders for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.

He said, “Of all of us that are running, who has the best chance? Who has the experience? One, I have been a governor in Anambra State before, I have been senator two times, I have my structure in the state, I have the people that are working for me, I don’t see why I cannot beat them.

“Those contesting against me have nothing, they are not prepared. We have a sitting governor; you need somebody with capacity to remove him, I know that I have the capacity to remove him.

Another aspirant intent on wielding the APC’s governorship ticket, Mr. Barth Nwigwe also visited the secretariat to pick his form and disclosed that he was joining the race because he had much to offer to the people of Anambra.

He claimed that he made contributions in nurturing the APC in the state as well as across the South-East and that he strongly believed that the race for the ticket is payback time.

Meanwhile, a coalition of the Niger Delta Militants has thrown its weight behind the call by the Indigenous People of Biafra to ignore and boycott the November 18, 2017, governorship election that is scheduled to be conducted in the state.

They made this known through an email and stated that their support for the IPOB was based on the neglect that the Federal Government showed to the killing of IPOB members on the 30th of May 2016 in some South-East and South-South states.

The coalition comprises the Concerned Militant Leaders, Niger Delta People Democratic Front and the Rainbow Marabas Squad. They sought justice for the victims of the Biafra Day Celebration. The leaders of the groups namely, ‘General’ Ben; ‘General’ Playboy; and ‘General’ Aneaja criticized the Federal government’s neglect of the matter, as they noted that the IPOB victims were unarmed and harmless.

‘General’ Ben, the convener of the coalition, said, “The Federal Government should address the injustice meted out to innocent and harmless IPOB members while celebrating Biafra Day.

“The election in Anambra State should not hold and will not hold. That injustice must first be addressed before any election will take place by Federal Government.”
