Tributes have been pouring in as 18-year-old Jamie-Leigh Hudson jumps from bridge into oncoming traffic, at Junction 40 near Ossett, West Yorkshire.
It was later discovered the incident was an apparent suicide.
Her father John Iain Hoggan wrote on Facebook:
‘Please respect the family at a very sad time. Thanks for your shares but unfortunately she was involved in the incident on the M1.
‘Unfortunately she took her own life. Please have respect with future comments.’
She was confirmed dead at the scene. Friend Katie Bate wrote:
‘No words can describe how I feel right now my best friend man rest in peace babe I love ya lots never known someone like u. ‘I will truly miss you we had so much I just can’t believe it’s you babe I’m so sorry.’

‘Police spoke to a number of witnesses at the scene but are keen to speak to anyone else who can assist their ongoing enquiries.’
The M1 was closed in both directions as emergency services dealt with the scene, but was reopened early on Saturday.
